The beauty of a hardwood floor is its renewable quality which means its serviceable life can be extended by refinishing and a programmed maintenance plan. Floors do not have to have a great thickness to be practical, it’s the floor finish you walk on and providing this is maintained correctly the life of floor is indefinite.

Refurbishments In Detail

Most hardwood floors can be refurbished, that is resurfaced by sanding to remove old floor finishes  and minor indentations and resealing with either a floor seal or a Hard Wax  oil or wax/oil combination. Bona and Junckers produce a variety of waterborne polyurethane seals suitable for both domestic and commercial use.    

Floors can also be finished with oil also available in a number of sheen levels and base colours to produce a great variety for individual finishes. Please see Treatex, Osmo and Blanchon for more information on finishing oils.

Existing floors can be repaired and extended subject to availability of matching species of wood and dimensions. It is possible to use reclaimed materials but particular attention must be paid to the moisture content of salvaged materials and possible adhesive contamination which can be costly to remove.
